July 19th, Ocean City, Maryland.
My partner and I decided to go on a trip with another couple on a little relaxing weekend getaway. What other place than something close to home? It is a few hours of drive time but a weekend of relaxation. We went to Ocean City, Maryland, and stayed at an Airbnb. It was a nice little condo, felt cozy, and was about three blocks from the boardwalk. Getting there was pretty tricky at first. Ocean City has some weird turns and one-way-only lanes. After the hurdle, we finally settled in.
Brisket Taco Dinner at the border
Wow! What a strange concoction. I told my partner that I would be adding this to the blog. I just had to share the weird experience. On the day of our arrival, we settled in and got comfortable. After arriving near 5 PM, we checked in and unpacked at our Airbnb. By that time, we had grown hungry! We decided to check on Instagram, Google, and other social media to see what was good to eat. There was one that stood out, and it was Barrio Taco.
The first thing we noticed when we arrived was that it was attached to another restaurant called Annabelle’s BBQ & Creamery. Apparently, the two restaurants were split. They had an interesting border concept. United States BBQ was on the top half of the menu, and the bottom half was a Mexican food menu. We were confused about the actual theme, but it turns out the foods come from two different kitchens. Talk about a different thematic restaurant experience!
I ordered three tacos since I was not feeling too well on the day we arrived: two Al Pastor tacos and one Asada. Everyone else ordered Tortillas, and oh man, did they look good. The Al Pastor were pretty good, but the Asada, NOPE! I clearly did not read the menu’s smaller print. It turns out it was a brisket taco! Since when have brisket tacos been considered Asada (Carne Asada means grilled steak in Spanish). At least the rest of the party enjoyed and destroyed those Tortas.
Don’t get me wrong. The restaurant had some good options. Maybe we just went in too late. I was tired from the drive and from not eating earlier. I would be open to giving it another try in the future if we were in the area. Casita Linda still tops this as my favorite restaurant in Ocean City, MD, with their Horchata Latte and yummy options!
Also, shout out to Rick’s Market! They had groceries, alcohol, and medicine. They also had all the things you need for a crazy night. Additionally, that is where we got our drinks and groceries!
Beach, DeLazyLizard, and Partying!
We started the next day by making breakfast (my partner made it). I just helped eat it and look pretty. It was delicious! (This is why I need to take care of my Susie!) What a great way to start the day in the morning.
Today was beach day! We had our wagon ready. We packed our cooler, drinks, coconut water, mangos, cucumbers, and chips, and we were all set to go in the morning! The boardwalk and beach were about three blocks, so it was a relatively easy walk. The wagon came in handy until we reached the sand. As soon as the wagon touched the sand, it became a 200-pound sled. We had to pull it because the friction and small tires did not contribute any more to the situation. I felt like I was at the gym getting a workout.
The weather was nice, warm, a bit cloudy. The beach waves were strong. The wave crashes were intense when we hopped in the water. The water was also cold. We saw a dude get flipped in the water. He was okay. We found it funny since he was okay and also laughing about it. We stayed for a couple of hours and tanned a bit. There’s just something about the weather at the beach and the environment. Whether crowded or not, it always feels peaceful and relaxing to be at the beach.
After the beach, we went back to the Airbnb and unpacked everything. After hanging out by the beach, we relaxed for a bit and took a little siesta. We then decided to start looking around for other places to eat.
We found a nice spot opposite the boardwalk called DeLazyLizard. I even added the link in case anyone in the area wants to check it out while you are on your Ocean City adventures. I actually enjoyed this place, and they had tons of options to eat. Whether you’re a burger or a salmon person, they had many options for the whole family. Check the place out if you are in the area.
I got the burger, someone else the wrap, Susie got a chicken sauté like dish, and the other person a burger with a seafood twist.
That restaurant was pretty great. I would definitely return to eat there when I decide to go to Ocean City, MD, again. The only unfortunate thing about this day was that it was raining when we ate. However, the good food made up for it. Eating outside would have been nicer if the weather had decided not to act up.
Afterward, we returned to the Airbnb and relaxed there for a while. We were talking and decided to start drinking, and boy, did we have fun afterward. I got Susie to drink even though she was initially hesitant. Here’s a funny picture of me giving Susie her Gloria El Rancho baby bottle.
This was a great way to conclude the night and most of the Ocean City, MD trip. We saw the 1922 movie at the end of the night. We had a bit of fun listening to music, chatting, and more. It was definitely a night to remember.
Shmagel’s Bagels and Chocolate Strawberries at the Boardwalk
What a long name for the header. Anyway, the next day we woke up a little tired after staying up and “partying”. It was the day we were heading back home. We decided to get. Breakfast and decided to stop at this place called Shmagel’s Bagels and it was pretty great! The breakfast and lunch bagels they had definitely hit the spot at 10 am. It’s a nice place to check out if you do not mind waiting in line. It was good but didn’t top Susie’s breakfast, of course! Definitely worth checking out, though.
After breakfast, we drove down to the boardwalk for one last time during the trip. Susie and I walked up the boardwalk and enjoyed taking pictures. I took most of the images on my DSLR camera but have yet to extract them. On the way to the restroom, I departed and left Susie to wait. When I came back, she discovered a sweets and candy shop. I forgot the name and tried to do a quick Google search but did not find it. The older lady running the shop was pretty sweet. We bought some chocolate-covered strawberries. We also purchased a few sour candies for myself. It was close to the 10th Street bathrooms. Check them out if you happen to find them. It was a nice little local shop.
Departure and back to the real world
Unfortunately, vacations eventually come to an end. After the chocolate-covered strawberries and bagels, we had to go. It was about a 6-hour drive, but it was a well-deserved and needed weekend vacation getaway. It is always nice to get out and enjoy life a bit. We should savor these moments, even for a little at a time. I think we all enjoyed it and would happily return in the future again. But as of now, I hope you enjoyed a little itinerary of our Ocean City trip in Maryland.
Stay safe on your travels and enjoy life one vacation at a time.
